Now, this is gonna be on tire size 225/60R18, so do be sure to check your tire information, plug it into our fit guide, and find the right tire chain for you, because there are multiple options for the Outback, and this chain may not fit all of them, but the installation process for the right size chain is gonna be the same. Now, with tire chains on your Subaru, there are some things we need to take note of. Subaru doesn't explicitly approve or recommend tire chains in their owner's manual, but they do say if an extra traction device is to be used, that it needs to be SAE Class S certified. And what that means is your vehicle has limited wheel well clearance, and they don't want super large tire chains sticking up and maybe making contact with suspension components or the wheel well and causing damage to your vehicle. more

Hey everybody, Cooper here from etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at our Konig self tensioning tire chains on our 2023 Subaru Outback. While this tire chain does fit a variety of sizes today we're going to be looking at it on our 225/60R18s. If you look into your owner's manual, you actually see that Subaru advises against using tire chains but they do recommend if some sort of device has to be used that it is SAE S Class certified which our tire chains here are today. Looking at our tire chains we'll be able to see that it is that diamond pattern. So while ladder pattern helps you with your starts and stops, the diamond pattern is going to give you a little more control on the turns. more

Diamond patterns give you a smoother ride and more contact with the road, makes turning a little bit easier compared to ladder patterns which help with starting and stopping. But when you're turning, they're a little bit more difficult. Taking a closer look at our chains here themselves, they are a square link made of a manganese nickel alloy, that's gonna help you with general corrosion and weather protection against ice and snow and everything like that. more

So please note the tire size that we're gonna be using today for this installation on our Outback. This is gonna be 225 6018. So if we take a closer look at the actual links, you can see they have a sort of a square pattern and what the square pattern does is, it does a great job of really helping bite into that snow or ice to give us the best traction possible. Now, in addition to the square links, we also have what's known as a diamond pattern. Eve Angeline: Hi, it's Eve Angeline from etrailer.com, and today we are looking at the Titan Chain Diamond Alloy Snow Tire Chain here on our 2020 Subaru Forester.So, this is a Class S chain, which is great when you don't have a lot of clearance and you need something that's low profile. It's also very easy to install, which is awesome, especially in emergency situations. When you need to pull over real quick, throw that tire chain on, and drive safely.So, the way this is designed is it has a diamond pattern, which means it covers a lot more of your tire, which helps with ABS system. So, when you have your starts and your stops, you won't have to worry about it with this type of chain on. It also has the square links, which really help give that traction you need on the road.One of my favorite features about this is the way our front links are coated as well as colored. So the coating helps protect your tire, as well as your fingers from freezing off if you're not wearing gloves like me, but please wear gloves. more

We're going to do a test fit of the Konig's Self-Tensioning, Low-Profile Snow Tire Chains.Now keep in mind, the tires that we're working with today is 245-40-R18. Now these are going to be a really nice tool to have on your WRX in any inclement weather situations where you just need some extra grip. They're going to cover your tire with a diamond-pattern chain that's going to have a lot more surface area, and a lot more traction than your standard ladder-pattern style chains. We're also going to have these small square links, which is going to dig into that snow or ice, make sure to give us the traction we need to get through any situation.Now what's nice about these low-profile chains is that they work great for our WRX because we do have a limited wheel-well entryway, so it's going to help out for getting them installed and it's also not going to rub up against the wheel-well at all, so you're going to get that traction while still protecting your vehicle.Now these chains are also going to be self-tensioning. We're going to have a self-tensioning system integrated into the chain, so you're not going to have to worry about picking up a rubber tensioner or anything like that to keep your chain snug against your tire. more

All right, Toyota's 2013 Subaru Forester. We're going to take a look at the top four chains that are available for a tire size of P225, 55, R17. First up is from Glacier Chains, part number PW1038. That part number includes these cables right here and the chains and the bars that go across the tire. It's a very simple system, but also the manufacturer recommends a tensioning system as well to help keep them tight on the tire. This is what the chains look like when they're installed on a tire. Let's go ahead and take a little bit detail here. First off, this is all constructed out of cables. You've got one durable cable all around on the outside, here, and one on the inside as well. All of these cables are constructed from a durable, low carbon steel. Today we're going to review part number Pw1038. This is the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains. Now we'll take a closer look here at the construction. You can see how the cross cables connect to the cables that go around the tire. You have this nice little crimped cable connection that holds everything in place. Thule CS10 Tire Chains Review - 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon- Video
Today on our 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon we'll be installing the Thule Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains, part number TH00204104. The size tire that we'll be installing our tire chains on today is a 225/60-R17. We've gone ahead and laid our tire chain out here on the floor. Next we'll go ahead and take the one end here that has the yellow on it and the blue cable, go ahead and feed that in from the backside of the tire forward. We'll then reach up underneath. Today on our 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon, we'll be installing the Glacier tire chains, part number PW1038. Now, the Glacier tire chains that we'll be installing today are an SAE Class S tire chain and they do meet Department of Transportation requirements in all states. These tire chains are designed to work on either a front or a rear-wheel drive vehicle. Now the size tire that we're going to be installing these chains on today is a 225/60/R17. We've already gone ahead and laid out our tire chains here. Let's go ahead and point out a couple things before we stick it up on the tire. This side here is the little hook portion that we want to make sure is facing out away from the tire. more

Titan Chain Twist Link Tire Chains Review - 2006 Subaru Outback Wagon- Video
Today on our 2006 Subaru Outback Wagon, well be installing the Titan Twist Link Snow Tire Chains, part number TC1138. These are SAE class S chains. Well be installing these tire chains on tire size 225/55-17. Well be installing the tire chains on the backs of the tires. Well begin our installation by first laying the tire chain flat out on the ground to undue any kinks or tangles. This will ensure that the tire chain will fit correctly around our tire. Now at the 12:00 position, we can pick up the tire chain and drape it over the tire, making sure the hooks are facing outward. more

Pewag Snox Pro Snow Tire Chains Review - 2006 Subaru Outback Wagon- Video
Today on our 2006 Subaru Outback Wagon, we'll be installing the Pewag Snox Pro Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chain, part number PWSXP560. These are SAE Class S chains. We'll be installing these tire chains on tire size 225-55/17. Now since this vehicle is all-wheel drive, we'll be installing the tire chains on the back set of tires. We'll first begin our installation by grabbing the chain by the red bungee which goes around the back side of the tire. We'll pull the chain out, making sure it is on the outside, making sure that large plastic Pewag symbol is at the 12:00 position on the backside of the tire. We'll need to press in the red button here on this buckle which will release the silver piece from the locking mechanism. This will give us that extra slack when we're positioning the tire chain around the tire. more

Thule CL10 Snow Tire Chains Review - 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon- Video
Today on our 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon with tire size P22560R17 well be installing the Thule CL10 Tire Chains using part number TH04255104. All well need to do is lay the chain out on the floor and running from the back of tire toward the front well run the blue cable around the inside of the tire. We then grab the cable at both sides of the tire and bring it up around from the inside toward the top of the tire where we can then make our connection. Well then drape the chain over the tire allowing the blue cable to fall towards the inside of the tire. Here on the outside well use the red chain link as well as the red hook on either side of the chains to make our connection here on the outside at the top of the tire. Well then continue to let the chain drape over the tire towards the bottom of the tire where well then take our cable and run it through the chain tensioner pulling it taunt where well then move up to the tension assembly and bringing the tension assembly down and hook it to the cable. more

Thule CG9 Snow Tire Chains Review - 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon- Video
Today on our 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon with tire size 22560R17 well be installing the Thule CG9 Tire Chains part number TH00023104. Now this is a very simple tire chain to install. Well simply slide the chain from the rear toward the front of the vehicle around the inside of the tire. Well then grab the blue cable on both sides of the tire and bring it up around towards the top of the tire and hook it together. Well then allow the blue cable to move towards the inside of the tire and well grab the chain where we can then make our connection using the red eyelet loop and red hook to connect it together here on the outside. Well then bring the chain around the tire evenly toward the bottom here on the outside. more

Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains Review - 2012 Subaru Impreza- Video
Today on our 2012 Subaru Impreza, we'll be installing the Glacier Tire Chains, part number PW1038. Now, our tire size on this Impreza is a 205-50 R17. These tire chains are perfect for the occasional use. They will feature a rugged steel wiring covered with case-hardened steel rollers. The spring rollers are wrapped around sturdy wire across cables and they're designed for passenger vehicles with limited wheel well clearance. They work on either front or rear wheel drive vehicles. Note that this is a full-time, all-wheel-drive vehicle so chains should go on all four tires. more
